How Plasma Cutting Works
Several manufacturers use CNC plasma cutters in various ways. Some use it in welding and fabrication centers while others use it for restoration and auto repair. Meanwhile, others use it at home for their hobbies as well. A computer system that controls the plasma torch runs a typical CNC plasma cutter.
The machine itself has the capacity to control the torch in whichever direction it pleases using numerical coding specifically programmed into the system that operates the CNC. A good example of how a CNC plasma cutter is when one cuts a piece of steel.
The computer system’s numerical control manages the movements of the plasma cutter’s torch. A specific program that contains the G and M codes describes the precision of a specific part, along with the timing of the torch itself.
CNC Units Today
The CNC units currently in production either have personal computers specially designed to control the machines, or pricy limited production computers designed to control burning machines. However, both types of CNC unit are almost identical when it comes production speed and cut quality.
CNC cutting lets you control the machine without getting in contact with the material itself. There are even CNC software applications programmed to set accelerations and even program pauses while working on the material which isn’t normally possible with the use of electric eye units.
